A Victory for Gender Equity in Hillingdon Council

Hillingdon Labour claims victory for Gender Equity in Hillingdon Council as Cllr Sital Punja’s motion to change “Chairman” in the constitution to “Chairperson” is agreed by the Conservative Leader of the Council ahead of the Council Meeting on 30th November 2023.

It is the first time that Hillingdon Labour have effected change to the Council constitution as opposition with Hillingdon Council confirming 192 changes to the Constitution replacing “Chairman” with “Chairperson”.

Cllr Punja says “I am thrilled that female Chairs of select committees and officers of meetings will no longer have to be subjected to the sexist and outdated term, Chairman.”
