Boris’ Brexit resignation demonstrates contempt for local residents

Boris Johnson has demonstrated his contempt for local residents by choosing not to resign as Foreign Secretary over failing to vote against Heathrow expansion – and instead resigning in the interests of his own personal career.

Speaking today after the resignation, Hillingdon Labour Group leader Cllr Peter Curling said:

“Boris Johnson has proven once again that he has no interest in representing others. He made the pledge about Heathrow because of its importance to this local area – not because he truly believes that a third runway is unneccessary and damaging.

“At the last Hillingdon Council meeting during Cllr Money’s motion calling on Boris Johnson to resign, the Leader said that the (now-ex) Foreign Secretary had consulted him over whether he should resign over the Heathrow vote – and Cllr Puddifoot told us that he advised Boris Johnson to stay in the Cabinet, which was welcomed by the Hillingdon Conservatives as a voice for Hillingdon in the Government.

“It seems that Boris Johnson hasn’t consulted the Leader of the Council on this occasion, and that Hillingdon’s voice in the Cabinet is no longer a priority.

“Boris will continue to do what is best for Boris.”
