Hayes Town Centre Update

It has been brought to my attention that during the walkabout by local councillors in Hayes Town area and the Chair of Hayes Town Partnership, David Brough, many people are asking if the promised improvements to the roads, pavements and lighting in Hayes Town are going ahead and if the reopening to through traffic will actually happen.  As the Chair of Hayes Town Stakeholders Group, I can say the answer is that everything is on course for work to begin later this year.  The proposals have gone through four of the five stages of the Transport for London vetting scheme and there is high confidence that the last hurdle will be cleared without difficulty. Hayes Town Major Scheme submission is progressing well.  Preparations are already underway to confirm the locations of the main pipes and cables that run under the streets and you may well see technical officers in fluorescent jackets using radar equipment to carry out this task.

Detailed design work is being done on the layout of the pavements, cycle tracks and on the traffic management arrangements by the complex junctions involving Coldharbour Lane, Pump Lane, Station Road, Botwell Lane and East Avenue.  This will conclude finalising the precise locations of the raised tables in the roads that are designed to keep moving traffic at the same speed.

A competition is being organised in the near future on the design of the feature that will replace the current band stand which will have to be removed to allow enough space for buses to pass between Coldharbour Lane and Station Road.  A similar approach will be pursued for a new landmark feature that could be installed near to East Avenue.  Detailed design work and traffic impact studies are underway as a continuing discussion with Transport for London.  You must have seen that the new legible signage for Hayes Town Centre has been installed.
